The platypus is a unique Australian mammal known for laying eggs instead of giving birth. It has a duck-like bill used to find food underwater, such as insects and small fish. Platypuses are skilled swimmers with webbed feet and waterproof fur for warmth. Shy and nocturnal, platypuses are rare to see in the wild.
